A New Conversation About Fit, Comfort, and Confidence
When you think about lingerie shopping, what comes to mind? For many women, it’s frustration: too many confusing sizes, bras that don’t feel right, and the sense that you’re settling for “good enough.” At Rumeur, we believe women deserve so much more—and that belief is the reason our doors opened in Del Mar at the end of 2019.
Our boutique was built to solve one of the most overlooked yet universal struggles women face: finding underpinnings that fit properly and make us feel good in our bodies. This blog is a new way for us to continue that mission—sharing knowledge, busting myths, and creating a space where lingerie is about health, comfort, and confidence.
How Rumeur Began
My journey to opening Rumeur wasn’t linear—it was a leap of heart, experience, and necessity. Before I was a lingerie boutique owner, I served in the U.S. Air Force as a Russian linguist. When I left the military to raise my two kids, I returned to school for my undergraduate degree in psychology, followed by a Master’s in Business Administration. I then managed my husband’s dental practice, but despite the success, something inside me wanted to create something that was mine—something that truly helped people in a personal and lasting way.
At the same time, I was dealing with my own lingerie frustrations. I couldn’t find bras that made me feel comfortable in my body, let alone confident. I started asking friends what they wore, and the answers were strikingly similar: “I just grab whatever looks like it fits and call it good.” Almost no one felt comfortable in their bras, and worse, no one felt like they had the right tools to know what should fit well.
That’s when the seed for Rumeur was planted: a boutique built not just on beautiful lingerie, but on expert fit, education, and support.
Building Through Challenge
Opening Rumeur in 2019 meant we were immediately thrown into the storm of the pandemic. Like so many small businesses, we had to fight hard to survive—but we did. Coming through the other side taught us resilience, adaptability, and just how important our mission truly was. Women still needed bras that fit. Women still deserved confidence. And in fact, during uncertain times, creating a space of care and empowerment became even more essential.
Why Fit Matters (It’s Not Just About Looks)
At Rumeur, our focus has always been on fit. And not for the sake of vanity—fit is a matter of health and wellbeing.
Here’s the truth: most women are wearing bras that don’t actually fit. And because bra education is practically nonexistent, women are left guessing about what’s “normal.” Gapping cups, slipping straps, pinching wires, bands that ride up—these aren’t small inconveniences. They impact daily comfort, confidence, and long-term physical health.
Bustier women, for example, often carry more weight in their bras. If the cups or bands aren’t supporting properly, that weight shifts onto the shoulders, causing unnecessary strain on tiny shoulder muscles. Over time, this can lead to permanent divots, back pain, neck pain, and posture issues.
And yet, few young women are ever taught what a bra should feel like, how it should fit, or why it matters. This is where education becomes powerful. When women understand their first layer, they gain control over both their wellness and their confidence.
Our Mission: Education, Empowerment, and Ease
Rumeur exists to change the way women experience lingerie shopping. We want to take something that has historically been stressful, frustrating, and even shame-filled—and transform it into something easy, supportive, and empowering.
Education first. We teach women what fit means for their bodies. Knowledge is confidence.
No judgment, no stress. Our boutique is a safe, welcoming place where every body is celebrated.
Wellness through lingerie. The right bra isn’t just about how you look—it’s about how you feel in your body, both physically and emotionally.
We like to say: we are literally women supporting women. Because when your bra fits, your body feels supported, and your mind is free to focus on everything else you want to do in life. When you’re not distracted by straps slipping, wires digging, or cups gaping, you can put your energy into the things that matter most.
When our minds aren’t stuck on our boobs all day—we can do anything.
